Changes!

June 14, 2009 at 5:45 pm (Uncategorized)

As per usual, it’s been a long time since I updated.  But no one reads this anyways so…

I don’t know what I’m getting at.

Anyhow, I changed the title of my blog after reading Fifty Things You Should Do This Summer.  I dunno why I just liked the sound of the name. But let’s talk about me, because I’m good at it.  I read in a psychological study somewhere that if you declare your intent to do something you probably won’t do it.  But, I’ve never been one for accomplishing shit anyways, so I’ll blog about it.  If I make progress, I’ll let you guys know.

  • Finish Gurren Lagann, this one will be the easiest, as I’m on episode 17 I think.  I watch it usually with a couple of fellow otaku, and usually we get through like 3 episodes before descending on video games.
  • Learn Hirigana and Katakana.  I’ve started to, because I’m gonna take japanese in college, but I’d like to have at least a LITTLE down before I go to school.
  • Start watching some new anime, I dunno what yet.  Probably just lurk /a/ until I decide.
  • Rock out on this nerdcore group I started.
  • And finally, I wanna integrate my interests better.  I’d like to really be able to mesh my love for electronic music with my love of all things nerdy.  I guess we’ll see how it goes

So that’s all for right now internet.  I guess we’ll see where life takes us, eh?

(I promise to try and write more too.  Seriously!)

Decide My Fate As A DJ!

April 13, 2009 at 3:37 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Edit: it would be greatly appreciated if you have time to kill, that you kill it by telling me why you voted how you did.

Not a life or death thing, but something pretty significant.  I’d like the people to have spoken, and so I will encourage the people speaking, but just this once.  Then the rest of you have to shut up and listen again.  ‘Cause I’m funny, dammit.

So just go ahead and respond to that guy.  I’ve allowed other answers so if you think I really ought to be playing Hands Up, go ahead and tell me so I can disregard that.  Now for most of you, these genres are a sort of alien concept, and you trying to wrap your head around which one is the correct answer would be like you’re first time with a girl, fumbling with her bra until she laughs at you and goes home.  But enough about my personal life, on to the explanations.

Drum and Bass – D’n'B, is of course, my first love as a genre of music.  It was really good music for my dark and brooding teenagerish year.  But for the most part, I’ve gotten really into techstep and I do enjoy the fast paced intensity of it.  It makes for very good “body” music and there’s nothing more fun than seeing a crowd get hyped when the first bassline of ‘Levitate‘ kicks in.  It’s probably the closest to that “Neo-Rave” stuff I have such a passion for.

Breaks – Breaks is the most commercially appealing genre I have here, I mean it’s bassically hip-hop, but faster.  Which, ironically, is why I like it.  The music is stupid party music, but that makes it tons of fun and its at just the right BPM that everyone can groove to it for a while.  I guess it’s technically ‘club’ and ‘rave’ viable, but I doubt I’ll ever get hired so here we are.

Techno – Techno is actually not what you think it is, kids from my high school who are coming here from the facebook link.  It is not cascada or basshunter.  Techno is the long prevailing trend of such detroit luminaries as Derrick May and Juan Atkins. I love the cold unfeeling sounds made from techno, and I love its futurist philosophies.  It’s greatest appeal comes from it doing double duty of being relevant in my brain and in my muscular system.

So there you have it kiddies.  Pick one and I’ll greatly consider the sites input.

i can show you the way but i know that you’ll never be there

Updated!

April 7, 2009 at 9:56 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m in a very creative mood now.  I don’t know why.  Something about Spring’s onset I assume.  I plan to do something about this, but given school and my persistent computer issues (Oh, THERE’s a writing topic!) It may very well not happen.  I hope it does though, often times I feel oddly imprisoned by my mind, because it’s privy to a surge to ideas that I find very difficult to deliver. Moving on:

I was reading my friend Matthew‘s blog yesterday, and it occured to me this was still here.  So, now we have an update.

So… On to me.  I ordered a pair of Ultrasone DJ1 headphones, but they’re backordered.  I’ll give the internet my opinion on them.  They seem nice, and I got them for a decent deal at $140.  This is part of my plan to make my CD player DJing setup into a MIDI Controller + Laptop setup.

Ooh.  I should make a Checklist.

So, those are those.  I’ll keep you updated as I buy it.  I intended to make music and post it on here, or even post some of the bootlegs I have, but obviously I didn’t do that, so that should happen.  In addition to this, I intend to eventually start a blog for the team that throws a monthly house party called The Bassment.  This also hasn’t happened.  So amid my massive computer troubles and such, this guy will try to get back on his feet.

Stay tuned.

Boy it’s been a while…

January 8, 2009 at 5:20 am (Uncategorized)

I’m sure the 0 people who read this are terrible upset.  Moving on:

My good friend, has recently started posting in his blog again, and because if I like to other people, I can direct the excessive amounts of traffic from my page over there.  Anyhow, he’s an interesting enough writer but one of his advantages/flaws is he writes like a high schooler with a huge vocabulary, whereas I try to write like a teenager with middling vocabulary.  Regardless, it’s there, I linked it, be content.

A couple of things:

1.  Obviously, it’s after New Year’s and like the rest of the people with websites, I made resolutions, partially for me, and partially as a cheap method to fill blog space.  So the game plan basically looks like so:

a. I’ve decided to stop using derogatory terms for homosexuality.  Those of you that know me in real life, and because I’m blogging to no one that’s well uh, me, know that I lean hard left, and I’m entirely for equal rights for all peoples.  Of course, doing double time as a high schooler, I also use ‘faggot’ to replace just about any word in the dictionary.

b. Update more, this one is obviously a no brainer.  I also wanna try posting on Glowsticking.com some more.

c. Get everyone I know on Twitter. This seems kind of odd, but Twitter’s microblogging sort of, quick spurts of data makes it a really interesting exercise in the blend between web 2.0 and real life. It basically allows for total connectivity, and the potential to piss people off because you interrupt their text conversations with comments about your literature class. In addition to that, it makes plan making easier, and it basically rekindled one of my old friendships. What’s not to like?

That’s the story.  NYE resolutions.  Coming soon, my top albums/tracks/what have you for the former ’08!

What has science done?

November 19, 2008 at 2:58 am (Uncategorized)

I love Douglas Coupland.  I’ve read the more recent three of his books, Microserfs, The Gum Thief, and jPod (not in order, screw you.)  I was stumbling through the net today looking for a chronic boredom cure, and happened upon TV Shack.  It was here that I noticed that jPod has a TV show based on the novel. Obviously I was incredibly curious and decided to watch it. It’s terrible, and I can see why it’ll never get outside of Canada.

Synthy McSynthsalot

November 18, 2008 at 1:13 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all.  It’s cold here, (legitimately snowing as we speak) and I have hot chocolate.  Life is good.

So you may or may not know that I am into creating electronic music.  I don’t have anything published or available, because I suck at everything.  But my conquest for fun plugins has led me around and I’m here to show off my particular favorites of right now:

1. dBlue Glitch
dBlue glitch is a VST effect plugin that is essentially 9 effects and a basic sequencer in one.  I mainly use this for mashing up that infamous break, but it serves many a useful purpose.  The stretcher, crusher, and shuffler effects a my personal favorites.

Just some alternate text.

2. Field VSTi
Field is a program by my favorite plugin developer, Tweakbench, which is an ambient noise generator based off of loop samples. There is also a built in EQ and presets available to get the maximum out of each particular sound. If you need background noise for a song, and don’t have samples yourself, this program is excellent.

Why are you reading this?

3. COLDKiLLER Mini
COLDKiLLER is an obviously cold sounding synth using the EVM Lightwave Oscillator. Ever since I stumbled upon NOVAKiLL’s website I have fallen in love with all of their synths. This one is definitely worth a looksee.

Why are you reading this?

These are my three free picks of the week.  Most of the sites have a lot more content on them and I’ll cover them at a later date.  Until then, enjoy.

Hello, Citizens of the Future!

November 15, 2008 at 6:00 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Blar, this most may be left unfinished, and that upsets me.  Normally I get a “flow” going when I write, and it’s incredibly hard for me to return to an unfinished page, or blog, as the case may be.  So  if I leave (for the new Bond movie and a nerf war) I may just post this unfinished little chunk.

Anyhow, I’m a big anti-censorship sort of person, and the fact that human beings can be restricted access based on another person’s vision of what is right infuriates me.  StumbleUpon allows me to let loose on this a little because they have some well written articles and essays.  I just hit this one and I wanted to spread it upon the tubes as fast as possible. So, here you go: Banned Books.

Moving on, I’ve been playing around with Ableton Live 7 lately, and I’ve had a sync issue where when I hit the keys to play a note, theres a couple milisecond delay thats been bugging the crap out of me.  (I am however, using just my keyboard because I’m poor.  Once I can afford a MIDI controller I hope it will solve the problem.)

This blog is part of my process of becoming a valid citizen of the internet.  I’ve got social networking (of course, what 17-year-old doesn’t?)  And I’ve got my youtube, google, and stumble accounts.  Lately though, I’ve been feeling the urge to spew useless information onto the web in hopes that some brave citizen will encounter it.  So I got a Twitter, which 1 person and about 6 organizations that don’t read people’s feed check.  I guess getting a blog was the next step to satisfy my urge that someone on the internet will get a kick out of reading about my life and interests.  I’m a little conceited in that way, I guess.

The amount of authorization on the ‘net today is a little obscene.  I think the point will hit where the amount of spam is less than the amount of email addresses needed to be imputted to various things.

That’s all for now, I guess.
